We love our beach, and we love giving back to our community. When The Control Group gets the chance to combine the two, we take it! We recently had our fifth annual beach cleanup, but this year we also jumped into the waves for a Best Day Foundation event.
The Best Day Foundation is a nonprofit organization who recently opened a new San Diego chapter. Their mission is to help special needs children build confidence by stretching their limits through activities such as surfing, kayaking, and more.
Head of User Experience Courtney Langan represented The Control Group and volunteered at a recent Best Day event at Breaker’s Beach on Coronado Island. Courtney was part of the water safety staff that secured the safety of all participants as they glided through the water. This team was responsible for safely returning the kids to shore after their fun ride on either a surfboard, paddleboard, or boogie board.
At each Best Day event, the kids are partnered with a Beach Buddy volunteer. Courtney and her buddy James, who does not have the ability to walk, swam in the ocean and bounced in the waves while they waited for his turn to surf.
The day was also filled with obstacle courses, snacks, and an award ceremony. Courtney and her family had such a great time at the event that they plan on attending the next one! If you are interested in volunteering as a beach buddy, you can find more information at https://bestdayfoundation.org/.
