In April, students from Hoover High School Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) arrived at TCG for a job shadow. This was Hoover’s second job shadow with us, and this time we were visited by the 10th and 12th grade classes. We scheduled a full afternoon of learning … and a little fun.
CTO Shiem Edelbrock welcomed the students with some interesting technology field facts and TCG history, as well as a little about his own path and background. After Shiem, we had Benj, Stephanie, and Alex present, followed by a tour. It was then time for lunch (probably one of their favorite parts of the afternoon). After lunch, the students were broken down into smaller groups and sent on their way with Designers Michelle and Amanda and Copywriters Rebecca and Heidi.
In the smaller groups, the students were able to get a closer and more in-depth experience. Heidi and Rebecca talked about the different types of blogs and stories they cover and the importance of relating everything back to the product. Amanda and Michelle showed them how design works and what goes into making a site visually appealing.
Job shadows are one of our favorite events at TCG. The students are always excited to visit, and we enjoy telling them about TCG and all the opportunities that await them.
