Every year, The Control Group travels to Hoover High School to show the next generation of the developers the fundamentals of web developer. For the 2018 Hour of Code, TCG developers Lauren Settle, Nate Cobb, Brian Peck, and Andy Muns talked about what we do at The Control Group, web development as a career, and provided a lesson in frontend development.
This year's theme was "Women In Code."
Students got hands on experience coding their own version of the "Flappy Bird" game.
Students even received one on one help from our pros.
After the lesson was over, our development teachers were surprised by the letters from students showing their appreciation for what they learned.
"I appreciate that you spent time of your own to come and teach us about coding and letting us try out some coding things. Thanks for also explaining what is required for some jobs and how much they pay and what kind of education level you need. What they said also encouraged me to stay in AOIT because the jobs that are offered seem pretty fun from the explanation they gave so I would enjoy having a job like that. You guys also seem like very nice people and helped everyone who needed help which was also very nice of you guys."
"Thank You for coming to our classroom and describing what your career is. This has convinced me to want to become a web developer because of all the exciting things you guys do everyday. I appreciate you guys letting us know what you got to do to have this job. I also appreciate you guys letting us code. It gave me a understanding of what the work is going to be like. The reason why I want to become a web developer is because I have a passion for coding and what makes it even better is that in the place you work it is so fun."
