He makes his own knives. He has a pet raven. He raised a family of baby ducks, and he even bathed with them. He traveled the country for two years in a yellow 1972 VW bus. You could say that Nathan Cobb is the most interesting man in the world, and you’d probably be right!
So, how did Nathan end up in California? Well, he decided to give up the nomad life and put down some permanent roots here in San Diego with then girlfriend Colleen (they’re now married) and his pup, Corn Dog, who would later become TCG’s Senior Director of Dogs.
Nathan is also the proud father of a beautiful little girl named Penelope Bean Cobb, who happens to be one of the smartest kids you’ll ever meet. Nathan told us she was counting by age 1, knew her ABCs by age 2, and has an incredible ability to remember even the tiniest details about people or places. Penelope also loves to hang out with Corn Dog and Kiddo, Nathan’s other pooch. Here they are on Corn Dog’s birthday!
The Road To TCG
After settling in to San Diego, Nathan picked up some freelance work building websites, and later joined a team of developers in Pacific Beach who were working on a little product you may have heard of called Instant Checkmate. That said, Nathan has been with us for a very long time; before The Control Group was even founded. Back then, the small team worked day in and day out in a tiny office that is now a Psychic Reading Building.
The humble beginnings of ICM and TCG.
These days, Nathan focuses on Marketing Operations and Application Development for Instant Checkmate. He is TCGs resident handyman, and a self-professed generalist, rather than a specialist. His efforts span across many departments, and he is the go-to guy for almost any issue. In Nathan’s words, he has “his thumb in a lot of pies.”
Unfortunately, the majority of Nathan’s presentation included super-secret proprietary information, and here at TCG, our hypothetical info vault is strictly guarded. So, instead of the in-depth amazingness that the team was able to experience, the nutshell version is that Nathan’s job can be broken down into four primary duties:
1. Overall Site Maintenance And Monitoring
2. Pixel / Fire Attribution
3. Data Monitoring
- Email, leads, and exclusion lists for marketing
- FBI, Census, and SEO data
- Criminal data / UD
- Chasing fraudsters
4. Cake / Campaign Configuration
- Affiliate management software
- Individual URLs for specific campaigns
That’s all folks! Stay tuned for next week’s drafternoon recap!
