For our The Control Group wellness event in January, we tried something different. We want to support the health of everybody who makes our company a great place to work, but we also want to help our local community. And since January is National Blood Donor Month, we naturally decided that the best way to show our appreciation is through a blood drive benefiting the San Diego Blood Bank.
The San Diego Blood Bank bloodmobile has been a regular sight in San Diego for decades. In their early years, they had to pay donors in order to supply local hospitals with blood. But today, they rely entirely on volunteers donors. The non profit organization now processes around 10,000 units of blood per month, supplying hospitals throughout Southern California.
On January 22nd, a bloodmobile parked outside of both of our office locations: one in Little Italy and one in Pacific Beach. A total of 27 people lined up to donate a pint. According to the San Diego Blood Bank, every donation saves approximately three lives, so we potentially saved enough people to fill a double decker party bus. Even better: after we saved all those lives everybody got a free carb-heavy snack to help kickstart the plasma and red cell replacement process.
Not everyone can launch new products, save lives, and celebrate their work with a delicious cookie. But that’s just another wellness event day at The Control Group.
